Don’t Make the Big
Mistake I Made
|
|
I know this well because for nearly twenty years I hid
from my dream. What I craved was to be a best selling author and
performer.
I wanted to be out in front of people, sharing my
wisdom, making a difference in the world.
Instead, I spent much of that twenty years hiding in cubicles and
conference rooms, burying my head in the business of advertising,
trying to convince myself I was happy. |

Every so often I’d take a voice lesson, or publish an essay … but I was
far from my dream of being a published author or a working performer.
But then life decided to teach me a lesson.
I had what I call my ‘denouement at Starbucks’. I was sitting there
after a hellish morning at the office when a little voice told me that
my dream was dying – unless I actually rose up and seized it at
that very moment.
Suddenly it was clear that all this time I’d been
waiting for someone else to get me out of hiding. So I did
something that I now see was critically important.
In my own mind, I simply declared myself a writer. Then I asked for a
sign of confirmation that I was on the right track. |

The Universe Wants You

So what does all of this have to do with you? Plenty!
You, too, could start having breakthroughs like this.
After I took the leap and decided to come out of hiding,
not one but three amazing things happened
right away.
First of all, I got fired. Plain old flat out fired. End
of job. I practically danced out the door. When I got home I found I’d
sold two more essays to major magazines.
And here was the kicker: that night I got a call from
LA, where a major movie star wanted to option the film rights to my
novel that no one had bought.
Suddenly I was set! I was on my way to becoming a writer
… for real! And that is just the kind of forward motion available to
